I’ve forgiven you
for trying to drown me
in the late 90s but
I still haven’t learned
how to swim
the fear of forgetting you
weighs heavily on my conscience
I’m sure you didn’t mean
for your typhoon waters
to drag me under
you only wanted to hold
me in your gut
before I left your land with
false promises of a return
neither of us had intended
for the fear and excuses
to keep us apart
for so long
but I still dream
of seeing your golden face
and I’m sure one day
I’ll take a swim in the ocean
and remember just good it felt
being in your gut
even if I never return
